Adrenaline effecting heart rate?

I have been training my aerobic fitness for the past few months to help my tennis game. So I played my first tournament last weekend and I put on the heart rate monitor so I could gauge my heart rate and my heart rate was already in the 160s before I picked up my racket. I was alittle nervous and excited to be playing, but normally my heart rate is below 100 before activity. Even once I got warmed up and into the match my heart rate never recovered. Could be be due to nerves alone and adrenaline production? I played a 2 hour match and never got fatigued and my legs felt fresh, so the training seemed to help but surely it would be even better if my heart rate didn’t start out that high?

Thanks for your time and any advice you have!
Also if it maybe nerves any tips to address that?

Ive been playing tennis for 13 years but first time ive started paying attention to heart rate
For the past 3-4 months I have only been training cardio on the treadmill or exercise bike, 4 times a week for a least a hour. Before that Ive trained anerobically with weights and sprints. Before the match I was just sitting, waiting for my name to be called, picked up my bag and walked to the court. I put on my heart rate monitor and it was 160. Is that just from competition?

How do I work out with my 5 year old running around?

I’ve been trying to work out 4-5 days a week for about an hour a day. My 5 year old son is always running around seeming to purposely get in my way. I try to make him understand that when I tell him to get out of the way it’s not to be mean, but so I won’t bump into him, kick him, or hurt him in any way while doing my exercise moves. I’ve tried keeping him busy with something else, but it never works. I’ve tried the kid workouts they have on Exercisetv on demand, but he gets bored with those. I’ve tried letting him exercise with me using my workouts but he always wants to get right under foot. I tried teaching him that each of us needs our own exercise space, but no matter where I move to get out of HIS way he jumps right in front of me to get in mine. The majority of the time I can’t even get my heart rate to a good pace during cardio because I’m constantly having to stop. I watch my diet and already run around with him outside, pick him up swinging him around while playing, and all of the "every day activities" that the pros suggest to exercise with kids, but I think I have a naturally slow metabolism(even though I’m only 25) because I never see results from these activities, which is why I think I need this extra workout. My husband works 5pm until 7am and sleeps until 1pm, then I have to work 4pm-9pm, my son and I get home about 10pm. The time between my husband getting up and me going to work I have to fix lunch and take that time to clean up the house while he spends time with our son. The only child-free time I’d have to work out is around 11pm when my son is in bed, but by then I am so exhausted from the busy day that I can’t get motivated to do any kind of work out and I have to go to sleep by 12 to get enough rest to be up and start the day over at 7am the next morning. With all that said, does anyone have an helpful suggestions?

SOLE Ellipticals

SOLE Elliptical machines: The science behind the machines. There is a lot of hoopla in the fitness equipment industry concerning Elliptical Trainers and which one has the best Biomechanics and Ergonomics. You’ll also hear terms like “Plantar flexion” and “Erector spinae rotation” and “Ulnar deviation”. We at Sole feel you shouldn’t have to have a degree in orthopedics to buy an Elliptical Trainer but you should understand the words Biomechanics and Ergonomics. Here are the official definitions: Biomechanics: The study of the anatomical principles of movement. Ergonomics: (from Greek ergon work and nomoi natural laws) The study of optimizing the interface between human beings, and the designed objects and environments they interact with. Simply stated Biomechanics is the study of how your body moves and Ergonomics is the study of how to build a machine that moves like your body does so you feel comfortable using the machine. For an Elliptical Trainer this means it should have a smooth, continuous foot motion, an Ellipse pattern (The pattern that your foot travels during exercise) that is level and simulates walking or running.

A recent study from the U of G showed that daily cardio reduces fatigue by 65%! •#4 Tons of other health reasons – oreduce risk of heart disease oreduce blood pressure oreduce risk of diabetes olive longer – 2hrs longer for every 1hr of exercise You’ve heard me say this before and I will repeat it again – cardio is much more important than lifting weights and if you only have 20min a day for fitness, you should spend the whole time doing cardio. Its clear that there is a lot of confusion about cardio, its really quite simple. In this video I’m going to tell you how to know what is good cardio and how to tell at a glance if a piece of cardio equipment is good or not. Lets start with the basics. The purpose of cardio is to elevate your heart rate and keep it target zone for at least 20 minutes. How elevated does your heart rate need to be? Depends on your goal, your age, and your health. Has anybody tried Nuphredine? Does it work?

Please don’t give me the song and dance about diet and exercise. I know some people don’t try that first but believe me I DO diet and exercise. I know all about target heart rate and all that stuff. I’ve been exercising regularly for 6 years. Weight training cardio and everything. I’m 40 years old and I’ve been dieting for 20 years. When I exercise and watch what I eat I stay the same. I never lose.
My problem has always been my appetite and that’s what I need help with. I’ve been hungry my whole life and that’s how I’m wired.
I am 35 lbs overweight and need something to help me with my appetite. I’ve tried diet pills and they work for awhile until I get used to them and then I gain it all back.
I’m trying to look for something more natural to help me.
If you have had success with anything other than Nuphedrine, I am open to suggestions. Thanks
NO! I am not talking about ephedrine!
I am talking about Nuphedrine.

http://www.nuphedrine.com/?b=1221

Grrrr! I wish people wouldn’t answer when they don’t bother to research a question or give the person asking the question the credit that they know what they are talking about!
I’ve been to the doctor and I’m tired of making them richer, taking pills that make me a basket case and gaining all the weight back. I’ve already had tests done. There is nothing wrong with me except that I have a large appetite.
I just want something to help me not be so hungry all the time that is natural and not full of chemicals.
I don’t take anything without doing extensive research.

Proper Use of a Heart Rate Monitor

Jessica from New Leaf shows how to properly use an ANT+ heart rate monitor by Garmin.

Heart Rate Monitor

Do you need one?

I’m running (treadmill) for weight loss and management; this is my cardio. I don’t care about running as a sport, marathons, etc. I also weight train and eat only whole foods.

I alternate: 1min @ 6.2 mph 0.5% incline / 1 min 3.8 mph 5% incline; total 65 mins (with 5 min cool-down) – a little over 5 miles, 750 calories. I’m doing this EVERY DAY
when I do it, I sweat, get flushed a bit – it’s a workout, but I’m not gasping or struggling – I can talk normally but with normal increased respiration

I’m 50 y.o., male
quit smoking ( 1+ pack/day, over 30 yrs) 13 months ago
quit drinking ( 12 pack / day Pabst Blue Ribbon) 29 months ago

12/31/07 start 196 lbs, now at 180, going to 146 lbs (goal), watching body composition, open to regaining good weight later
now, have skinny legs, arms, neck, etc. but all belly fat

resting heart rate approx. 48
running heart rate about 148

I’m just curious how this compares / benchmarks; be nice please

Mio Heart Rate Monitor Watch?

I just got one of these and am reading through the paperwork. But thought I might get a clearer answer here. My resting heart rate was 74 and it had a 41% next to it. Does that mean my max heart rate shouldn’t be more than 104? That seems low, doesn’t it? I exercise and am sure my heart rate goes past 104 during cardio.
I also forgot to add that I do have 1 cup of black coffee about an hour before my work-out. Not sure if that changes the numbers.
If I can actually get a real answer to my question, that would be great! I’m not asking about personal opinions of HRM’s, just what my max heart rate should be….. hmmm….

Okay, so I was at the gym the other night doing my normal 20 minutes of cardio. I usually use the heart rate monitors and notice my heart rate never goes about 170 (166 and I’m working REALLY hard and my breathing is labored). Anyway, I decided to cool down and when I held the heart rate monitors to watch my heart rate decrease and I noticed to my great surprise that my heart rate was 205 even though I didn’t feel like I was straining at all and just began to cool down.

I thought something was wrong with the machine’s monitor so I jumped on another one and got the same results. This freaked me out so I drove to the nearest emergency room since at that point the fear that my heart was about to "explode" gave me short breath, and light headedness.

The doc took my heart rate and blood pressure (both were good..94 HR even though I was anxious) and did and EKG which looked fine.

But I’m still worried and I’m nervous to go to the gym! I don’t want the same thing to happen again…. the doctor told me it’s normal for people my age (22) to have their heart rate go up that high when they are working hard, but I wasn’t working any harder than usual. I did have some caffeine that day which I never really drink, and I do have a history of general anxiety/panic attacks (but wasn’t feeling anxious in that moment).

Has this happened to anyone before? I want to go the gym, but I’m scared this will happen again.
